Hiking Goldmine Mountain (San Tan Mountains Phoenix/Chandler, Arizona)

Trip report for hiking to the summit of Goldmine Mountain, in San Tan Mountains Regional Park outside Chandler / Phoenix, Arizona. This is a winter ascent (February) via Goldmine trail and off-trail starting at the Goldmine trailhead. Roundtrip distance: 4.00 miles, elevation gain: 1,499 feet.

This is a second attempt at this summit. The first attempt also has a video trip report and can be seen here: https://youtu.be/iaa6LOac68M

Not making it to the summit can be disappointing, but everyone does it! This is a nice example of a seemingly “sure-thing” summit, but turning around was the best option the first time, so I took it.

Looks like a nice run! Could use that warm sun right now in the PNW

Really enjoyed your video. My wife and I completed the Goldmine/Dynamite loop yesterday and I was eyeballing the ridge line to the Goldmine summit. I found your video and think I’m gonna give it a go before it gets hot. I don’t mind steep trails and doing some scrambling, but I’m definitely not a rock climber and don’t like being too exposed to falling. From what I can see in your video, it seems to be within my personal comfort zone. I guess there is only one way to find out! Thanks for sharing!
